International Education

International Education (IE) seeks to develop each student according to his talents and interests by focusing on key life skills such as critical, inquiry and reflective thinking; empathy for others; global mindedness; self-directed learning; communication and cross-cultural skills.

IE aims to provide an enriching learning experience beyond the formal curriculum for the students. It will provide opportunities beyond the borders of Singapore for students to synthesize academic knowledge and apply it through service learning. More importantly, the IE curriculum sets the student to develop himself in a unique overseas experience beyond Singapore borders to eventually become useful 21st century citizens of the world.

International Experience Programme for Year 3 Students

All Secondary 3 students have the opportunity to propose, design, plan and execute an overseas project. In line with SJI’s mission, students will have the chance to be involved in service work with communities beyond the shores of Singapore. Activities include interacting and helping in the education of young children, environmental work, assisting in the refurbishment of building of schools or organisations with established links with SJI. All these allow the broadening of the minds of our students as they gain insights about themselves and others as they learn to empathise with these communities outside Singapore.

Our students are also enabled to become responsible global citizens who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect, with special attention to the last, the lost and the least.

Global Education Programme (GEP) for Year 5 IB students

The Global Education Programme is an extension of the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme. It is designed to provide opportunities for physical challenges, cultural engagement and community service during a 7-day trip outside Singapore. The aim is for students to acquire the knowledge base and understanding of global issues and develop skills to take action towards creating a better world. The programme embraces both SJI and IB’s vision of developing caring global citizens who will be a catalyst for change and make a difference to the world.
