SJI Celebrates 175 Years of Education in Singapore
ABOUT OUR 175th ANNIVERSARY
13 February 2026,
Honouring our Legacy, Building our Future
175th Anniversary Fundraising Appeal
Dear Parents and Josephians,
Grace & Peace to you!
As we look ahead to 2027, St Joseph’s Institution (SJI) will mark a significant milestone - the 175th anniversary of her founding. This milestone invites us not only to celebrate a rich and distinguished heritage, but also to pause in gratitude and reflection for the many generations of men and women who have shaped SJI into the school it is today.
For more than 170 years, SJI has stood by its mission to always accompany the human person holistically, anchored in faith, service and community. Each generation of Josephians has benefited from the sacrifices, generosity and foresight of those who came before us - parents, alumni, benefactors, educators and religious priests and Brothers who believed deeply in the mission of a Lasallian education. Because of their generosity, SJI was able to grow, renew herself, and remain responsive to the needs of each new era. As we approach this important anniversary, we are now called to do the same.
Our last major fundraising effort for the school was 15 years ago in 2011 where many benefactors generously helped us with a major fundraising appeal to renew the campus for the advent of our International Baccalaureate Curriculum. While we are deeply grateful for the support received thus far, additional resources are needed to ensure that our learning environment and shared spaces continue to serve our students well in the years ahead. The 175th Anniversary in 2027 is an invitation and an appeal to you to support us generously to continue high-quality, holistic and values-centered education for future generations of Josephians with the enhancement of facilities.
The funds raised will be channeled towards essential campus renewal and improvement works, including the upgrading, maintenance and refreshing of key school facilities, as well as development projects that support teaching, learning and holistic student formation, and/or any other educational purpose(s) approved by MOE. Beyond upkeep, SJI is committed to re-imagining our learning spaces - creating environments that inspire innovation, creativity, collaboration and curiosity. To achieve our fundraising target of $14.2M, we seek to partner our wider Josephian community - alumni, parents, friends and benefactors - in transforming our campus into forward-looking spaces for future-ready learners.
Our immediate funding priorities include:
Refurbishment of the Performing Arts Centre (PAC)
First opened in July 1995, the PAC has served generations of Josephians as a vibrant space for artistic expression and community gatherings. After nearly three decades of intensive use, its audio-visual and lighting systems, interior finishes, walls, upholstery and acoustic treatments now require comprehensive replacement. The refurbishment aims to create a functional, inspiring and specialised environment that continues to nurture artistic excellence and creative expression.
Expansion of the Makerspace
To better support innovation, ideation and adaptive thinking, the Makerspace will be expanded and equipped with appropriate furniture, furnishings and equipment to encourage hands-on learning, experimentation and creativity.
Renovation of the Canteen
Beyond improving sanitation and pest control, the redesigned canteen will be a welcoming space that promotes community building, collaboration and moments of joy - reflecting the importance of shared spaces in school life.
Rejuvenation of Learning and Activity Spaces
This includes the renovation, repurposing and expansion of classrooms, art & music studios, science laboratories, CCA rooms and sports facilities. We also plan to enhance outdoor learning and play areas, such as resurfacing works and the installation of canopy structures to create more sheltered basketball courts for Physical Education, CCAs and unstructured play.
This appeal is not simply about funding projects. It is about paying it forward. Just as earlier generations invested in the school that nurtured us, we are called — as parents, alumni, partners and friends — to ensure that SJI remains a place where future generations can grow in faith, character, competence and compassion.
This letter marks the start of our fundraising campaign. In the months ahead, the school will organise various fundraising initiatives, allowing members of our community to contribute in ways that are meaningful and manageable. Every contribution matters — whether through a one-time donation, a pledge over time, participation in fundraising events, or by encouraging others to support the school. All donations are tax-deductible at the prevailing rates.

Should you wish to pledge an amount to the school, please email our Vice Principal (Administration), Mrs. Shirley Foo, at shirley.yong@sji.edu.sg
As a community that seeks to form young people of integrity, service and purpose, we humbly invite you to respond once more to our alma mater’s gentle call — and to journey with us as we prepare SJI not only to celebrate her 175th anniversary, but to confidently step into the future.
With God’s grace, and with the united support of our Josephian family, we are confident that together, we can meet this challenge.
Thank you and God bless for your continued faith in St Joseph’s Institution and in the Lasallian mission.
Ora et Labora.
