October: Unveiling of the SJI 170th Anniversary logo at Thanksgiving Assembly on 29 Oct 2021

The SJI 170th Anniversary logo is designed by Le Hai Long Quan (MN403, Class of 2021) where he aspires to remind Josephians of the Lasallian values of Faith, Service, and Community. Central to the design is the Star of Faith, in Latin “Signum Fidei”. The star is a symbol that guides Josephians through their successes and challenges in life, all of which is part of God’s greater plan. The statue of St John Baptist de La Salle inspires all of us who are part of the educational mission in SJI. It is a reminder of the importance of Service, to always give back to those who have less, especially the poor. A well-intended depiction of human silhouettes is illustrated as four sets of windows, representing the 4 Fraternities of Fintan, Lawrence, Michael and Marcian, which form the SJI Community, a family to which all of us belong.

October: Appointment of New SJI Principal from January 2022

SJI is pleased to announce that Mr Justin Arul Pierre will succeed Fr Adrian Danker, SJ as Principal from 1 January 2022. His appointment by MOE is made in consultation with the Brothers of the Christian Schools and the SJI Board of Governors.

Mr Pierre is currently a Cluster Superintendent at the Schools Division of Ministry of Education.

He started his teaching career at Victoria School before taking on the position of Head of Department at Raffles Institution. Subsequently he was appointed as the Vice-Principal of Holy Innocents’ High School and then he went on to head Pasir Ris Primary School as Principal.

As a Cluster Superintendent, Mr Pierre leads and guides the School Leaders (SLs) of 12 schools comprising 6 Primary Schools, 5 Secondary Schools and 1 Integrated Programme (IP) School in the Eastern region of Singapore.

Mr Pierre was educated at St Gabriel’s Primary School, St Gabriel’s Secondary School and Catholic Junior College. He read History at the National University of Singapore.

SJI is pleased to have Mr Pierre, a Catholic, lead the school. He is committed to continue the good work of shaping the character of the school as a Catholic Lasallian Mission school.

Mr Pierre looks forward to leading SJI: “I’m excited about the opportunity to once again be in a role that allows me to connect and engage with young people, help them grow and realise their fullest potential. I am indeed humbled and privileged to be given the opportunity to lead this esteemed institution, and can certainly appreciate SJI’s illustrious history, culture and ethos. I intend to uphold the school’s rich traditions and Lasallian values whilst maintaining the upward trajectory in the school’s progress.”

The Brothers and the SJI Board are confident that Mr Pierre will bring with him the experience and skills to move SJI forward in her mission and continue the important work of forming men and women of integrity and men and women for others.

Fr Adrian Danker, SJ, will be returning to serve in his religious order, the Society of Jesus, and the Catholic Church.

De La Salle urged the Brothers to have a special devotion to Saint Joseph and hold him as their model of a just, humble man who had confidence and faith in God.
