Direct School Admission To Year 5 In 2021

1. SJI welcomes current Secondary 4 students, both boys and girls, to apply for DSA to Year 5 in 2021 (IBDP). The SJI JC education leads to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

5. Successful DSA-JC candidates will NOT be allowed to participate in the Joint Admissions Exercise. They will also NOT be allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the GCE O-Level examination results. They are expected to honour their commitment to the DSA-JC schools.

Selection Criteria

7. The criteria for selection are based on the following:

a) Evidence on engagement and achievements in the domain applied for;
b) Quality of mind
c) Personal and relational characteristics
d) Academic performance in Secondary 3 (mid-year and end-of-year) and Secondary 4 (CA1) school results with the L1R5 Aggregate Score based on the following subject groups:

e) Results from the Math test conducted by SJI.
f) Results from the English essay cum interview.
g) Shortlisted Performing Arts & Sports candidates may be required to upload video recordings of their past performances / competitions. Submission instructions will be emailed to the shortlisted candidates.
h) Shortlisted Visual Arts candidates will be required to submit their art portfolio online. Submission instructions will be emailed to the shortlisted candidates.

8. Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to sit for the Math test and English essay (in separate sittings) and attend an interview.

9. In the SJI IBDP, students are expected to participate in a range of Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) activities over two years. This is unlike Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) in a JC where students participate in one CCA over two years.

Application Process

10. The SJI DSA-JC application will be open from 18 May to 29 June 2020, 3pm. Please note that incomplete and late applications will not be processed.

11. Applications for the SJI DSA-JC are to be made online at http://app.sji.edu.sg/dsa_ib.

a) Upon completion of the online application form, click ‘Submit’
b) Print a hardcopy of the completed form and sign.

12. The SJI online application portal will be locked on 29 June 2020 at 3pm. Submission of the supporting documents is to be emailed to admissions@sji.edu.sg by 5pm on 29 June 2020, with the Subject Header: DSA-JC Application [Name of Applicant].

13. Submission must include the following:

a) A print-out of the completed application form duly signed.
b) A copy of Secondary 3 (mid-year and end-of-year) and Secondary 4 (CA1) results.
c) A copy of CCA records.
d) Any other supporting documents for the domain applied for.

14. Please be advised that your application is only considered complete when all the following are fulfilled:

a) The online application has been made and an application number has been issued by the system;
b) Supporting documents have been emailed to SJI.

Payment

15. An administrative fee of $30 is payable, if shortlisted.

16. This fee is non-refundable regardless whether the applicant sits for the Math test / interview. Payment can be made via PayNow or Bank Transfer before sitting for the Math test. Applicants who are recipients of the MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) will have their fees waived upon producing the necessary documentation.

Written Tests and Interview

17. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to sit for an online Math test, an English essay and an Interview session through video conference. The tentative dates are as follows, please refer to the email for the specific date and time.

18. In view of the Covid-19 situation, to ensure the safety of the DSA applicants, we will conduct selection assessments via electronic modes, shortlisted candidates will be advised accordingly. Applicants need not visit our school in person.

13 July 2020 (Monday), 2:30pm Math test (1 hour)
13 July 2020 (Monday), 4.15pm English essay (20 minutes)
14 - 17 July 2020 Interview

Fees paid and documents submitted in connection with the application are non-returnable regardless of whether the applicant is shortlisted.
