Year 4 OP on a Learning Journey

Our Year 4 OP Josephians embarked on an enriching Learning Journey across various industries. This experience allowed them to gain valuable knowledge, skills, and insights that will support them in making informed decisions about their post-secondary education and future careers. Through these visits, students discovered potential career paths aligned with their interests, developed transdisciplinary thinking by exploring the diverse roles within a single organisation or industry and engaged in authentic conversations with seasoned professionals in the workforce.

The industries explored included Healthcare, Sustainability, Technology, Law, Media, and Design. We were deeply grateful for the opportunity to visit the following esteemed organisations: St. Luke's Eldercare (Healthcare), Building and Construction Academy (BCA) (Sustainability), Foundry (Technology), The State Courts (Law), Rice Media (Media) and Chemistry (Design).

Isaac Soh and Asher Lee from FN402 had the privilege of visiting Rice Media, where they met Julian, the founder of the company and a proud alumnus of SJI. Julian shared that Rice Media is dedicated to uncovering the untold stories of people in Singapore. Unlike more prominent media outlets like The Straits Times or CNA, Rice Media, though modest in size, is known for its bold and thought-provoking storytelling that often sheds light on social issue, sometimes sparking difficult but important conversations.

At The State Courts, students witnessed a live court proceeding—an eye-opening experience that brought the realities of the legal system to life. Dexter Ng from FN402 reflected on the experience, noting that court proceedings were far more formal and grounded than the dramatised versions often portrayed in films. He came away with a newfound respect for the seriousness of legal processes.
