The 2026 SJI Mighty Mousetrap Car Challenge

Engineering, creativity and a lot of perseverance were on display at the 2026 SJI Mighty Mousetrap Car Challenge!

On 1 July, the Indoor Sports Hall welcomed 34 students from nine South Zone schools for the third edition of this annual STEM competition.

After months of designing, building and refining their mousetrap-powered cars, teams put their creations to the test. Every race brought new lessons as students analysed results, made adjustments and discovered how small changes in force, balance, friction and design could make all the difference.

Secondary School Category

• 1st Place: Peicai Secondary School – Team 1

• 2nd Place: St. Joseph's Institution – Team 1

• 3rd Place: Peicai Secondary School – Team 2

Primary School Category

• 1st Place: St. Joseph's Institution Junior – Team 1

• 2nd Place: St. Stephen's Primary School – Team 1

• 3rd Place: St. Joseph's Institution Junior – Team 2

Beyond the competition, students shared their engineering journeys through presentation posters, exchanged ideas with peers and encouraged one another throughout the afternoon. It was a wonderful celebration of curiosity, collaboration and resilience, all  qualities that lie at the heart of STEM learning.
