Thanksgiving Assembly 2025: Celebrating Our Bountiful Year

On 24 October SJI held a Thanksgiving Assembly where students folded gratitude messages into origami butterflies before gathering with the wider Lasallian community.
On Friday, 24 October 2025, our SJI community gathered to mark the close of an extraordinarily bountiful year. This has been an exceptional year for SJI - a year of learning, growth, courage, and remarkable achievements. Our students have excelled across so many domains - academics, sports, the performing arts, in the uniformed groups, in leadership, and service.
The morning began intimately within each classroom, where students engaged in a reflection activity that spoke to the heart of gratitude itself. Each Josephian and teacher carefully inscribed messages of thanksgiving onto delicate origami paper, penning words of appreciation for those who had touched their lives throughout the year. With thoughtful hands, they folded these papers into butterflies - symbols of transformation and beauty - before presenting them to the persons for whom they were grateful. This tender exchange created a sacred space for genuine connection and an opportunity to express what often remains unspoken. It was a profoundly personal prelude to the communal celebration that would follow.
From these quiet moments of individual gratitude, our entire Lasallian community then proceeded to the Indoor Sports Hall, where we gathered for our annual Thanksgiving Assembly. The day's celebration continued with a beautiful Eucharistic Celebration that united us in prayer and reflection. The traditional procession of school colours, fraternity banners, and the Founder's and St. Joseph's banners, led by our stirring SJI Pipe Band, set a tone of reverence and pride that resonated throughout the hall.
Our Principal, Mr. Justin Arul Pierre, in his inspiring address, reminded us of the many blessings we have encountered this year—from academic and sporting achievements to moments of service, friendships, and personal growth. Beyond the medals and trophies, he shared that we should all be proud of our collective efforts, our determination, and the Josephian spirit that we have shown throughout the year and how we have grown in character, perseverance, and in faith.
The highlight for many was the awards presentation. We celebrated our Class Champions from Years 1 to 4 and the Fraternity Champion, Lawrence, who triumphed with an impressive 10,132 points. Parents beamed with pride as they watched their sons receive individual recognition, from the Patrick Zehnder and Peter Martens Awards, Sportsman of the Year Award to the prestigious Lasallian Distinguished Service Awards. A standing ovation greeted Darren Lee Ray Jie of Lawrence 403 as our 2025 Senior Josephian of the Year and inaugural recipient of the Brother Liefroy Bajon Leadership Scholarship. Priceless memories were created as families captured these special moments together.
As we sang St. Joseph's Call together, every voice united in gratitude for the unforgettable journey we have experienced and shared together in this school year.
