SJI’s Mighty Mousetrap Car Challenge

SJI ran its first Mighty Mousetrap Car Challenge for South 5 and Lasallian schools.
On 3 April, we organised the inaugural SJI Mighty Mousetrap Car Challenge, an inter-school STEM competition.
The aim of this event was to reach out to the schools in the South 5 Cluster and other Lasallian schools to raise awareness of STEM, and to promote interactions between students from various schools. In all, there were a total of 30 participants.
A month before the competition, SJI conducted a workshop to share basic principles of how the mousetrap car works, and other construction tips. All the schools that had signed up were invited to this workshop. On competition day, we saw students generally filled with great excitement, as well as some disappointment with their car performances.
For the Secondary school category, Bendemeer Secondary School clinched first prize, while the two SJI teams came in second and third respectively. In the Primary school category, St Anthony’s Primary school won first place, followed closely by the two teams from Bendemeer Primary School.
