SJI Teams Gained Exposure at Ethics Olympiad

Attracting teams from schools the world over, the Ethics Olympiad was a prestigious global competition that tested the ability of participants to make cogent ethical decisions based on real-world case studies, ranging from the validity of exploitation in the K pop industry to the ethicality of fast fashion.

SJI had sent two teams to participate in the preliminary round of the competition, which was held through Zoom. After countless sessions of training and sparring, both teams entered the gruelling phases of the competition with hearts of steel. Though the teams faced many challenges such as tough opponents and technical difficulties, both teams emerged victorious from the struggle, earning the fourth and fifth spot amidst tenacious competition from many other teams. As an added bonus, the team which placed fourth were invited to participate in the finals of the competition - a great honour. Through this competition, both teams gained invaluable experience in approaching ethical debates with restraint and clarity of expression, putting them in a position to appreciate the greyness of this highly contested area of philosophy.
