SJI Rises to the Challenge at the National School Teams Chess Tournament

On 4 September, four Josephian teams competed in the annual National School Teams (NST) Chess Tournament. As the largest national chess event, our teams faced tough competition but performed admirably, with three finishing above their starting seed.

A standout achievement was by our B-Division Team 1 comprising Jaeden Ng (FN401), Ryan Low (LE301), Chern Ze Hearn (ML302), and Captain Ethan Lai (LE301). They emerged as South Zone Champions and overall National 3rd place, beating traditional powerhouses such as RI and ACS(Independent).

• B-Div Team 1: 3rd in National, 1st in South Zone (Starting Rank: 8) with Jaeden Ng, Ryan Low, Chern Ze Hearn, Ethan Lai

• B-Div Team 2: 24th Overall (Starting Rank: 14) with Steven Wang (LE402), Gabriel Low (FN401), Xuan Le Lee (ML301), Cody Tan (LE402)

• C-Div Team 1: 8th Overall, 4th Zonal (Starting Rank: 10) with Kieran Tan (LE201), Jay Tay (LE201), Ding Rong Tham (MN101), Zhenxuan Wang (LE101)

• C-Div Team 2: 11th Overall, 5th Zonal (Starting Rank: 17) with Siddharth Kumar (ML102), Darryl Phang (LE201), Ray Kye Tng (MN203), Trevor Vong (LE101)
