SJI Hockey Serves and Competes at the National Day Sports Fiesta

On 2 August, our SJI Hockey CCA took part in the National Day Sports Fiesta (NDSF) at the Singapore Indian Association, contributing as volunteers, ambassadors and players in an event that brought the community together through sport.

Throughout the day, our students showed resilience and commitment, serving through the scorching morning heat and heavy afternoon rain. Despite the challenging conditions, they remained steadfast in supporting the organisers and ensuring that the event ran smoothly.

In the evening, our B and C Division teams took to the pitch. The B Division team secured a victory against the Singapore Indian Association Hockey team, while the C Division team battled the 1973 SEA Games gold medal team in a closely contested match that ended in a goalless draw.

Impressed by the teamwork, determination and sportsmanship displayed by our C Division players, the 1973 SEA Games gold medallists graciously presented the cup to them — a meaningful gesture of encouragement from one generation of sportsmen to another.

More than a sporting event, the NDSF was a meaningful VIA experience that reflected the Josephian spirit. Through their willingness to serve, persevere and contribute to the wider community, our hockey players demonstrated what it means to be Men for Others.

The experience was also a reminder that being part of a CCA is about more than competition and achievement. It is about character, camaraderie and using one's gifts to serve others — showing how sport can bring generations and communities together.
