SJI Debaters Triumph as Champions in the Infernus Cup 2025!

The novice debate team won by beating VJC and NJC before defeating Raffles Institution in the final.
Our SJI Debaters made the school proud by emerging Champions in the Infernus Cup held on 15 March and hosted by NYJC.
The Infernus Cup is a novice debating competition aimed at providing a platform for emerging debaters to hone their skills in a competitive yet supportive environment. The tournament follows a unique structure, where only students with no prior competitive debating experience are allowed to speak. However, each team benefits from the guidance of one experienced debater during preparation, ensuring that novice debaters receive mentorship while developing their own argumentation and public speaking abilities.
SJI’s team comprised the following Josephians: Krishna Muthukuraman (ML612), Tan Xue Yuan (ML612), Dhakshesh Vijay (FN502) and Jedidiah Eo Shuo (MN519). The Team Captain serving as the debater with experience was Patrick Nott (MN516).
The SJI team made an impressive debut at the tournament by securing 2 victories against Victoria Junior College (VJC) and National Junior College (NJC) respectively. In the final round, the SJI team faced Raffles Institution (RI) and delivered a decisive victory to finish first place in the entire tournament, claiming the Infernus Cup for SJI. The SJI debate team was the only team to secure 3 wins out of 3 rounds during the tournament, leaving SJI as the only team to go home undefeated.
