SJI Celebrates National Day

On Friday, 7 August, the SJI community came together to celebrate Singapore's 61st National Day with a meaningful day of reflection, gratitude and joy. The commemoration began in classrooms with a specially curated lesson package centred on the National Pledge, which marks its 60th anniversary this year.

As Josephians reflected on the values enshrined in the Pledge, they were invited to reimagine it as a "Living Pledge" — expressing through words and art how its ideals of unity, justice and equality can be lived out in our school and in our daily lives.

The celebrations then moved to the Indoor Sports Hall, where the school gathered for the Observance Ceremony. Together, we stood proudly as one community to sing the National Anthem and recite the National Pledge, reaffirming our shared commitment to Singapore and the values that bind us together.

The atmosphere soon came alive with excitement as classes competed in an engaging Kahoot quiz, challenging one another to "Go Beyond" in their knowledge of our nation and its history. The friendly competition showcased not only the enthusiasm and spirit of our Josephians, but also their deep appreciation for Singapore's journey over the past six decades.

The celebration culminated in a spirited singalong led by three Year 5 students, who rallied the entire school in renditions of three beloved National Day songs. The final performance, a heartfelt rendition of Home, brought together students, staff and School Leaders on stage in a powerful moment of unity — one voice, one school and one nation.

As we celebrate Singapore's 61st birthday and the 60th anniversary of the National Pledge, may we continue to honour the values that have shaped our nation and strive to build a future marked by courage, compassion and hope.
