SJI Celebrates 174th Anniversary Parade

The SJI Uniformed Groups Anniversary Parade was held on 5 May 2026 at the school’s Founders Hall as the rain poured outside. Despite the inclement weather, it did not dampen the spirits of the Uniformed Groups (UG) cadets who were determined to put on a good showing. The annual parade showcased the discipline, commitment, and achievements of the school’s UGs, while recognising the valuable contributions made by cadets and teachers throughout the year.

In the Founder’s Hall, the stirring sounds of the SJI Bagpipes and Drums heralded the start of the evening’s programme. The school was honoured to welcome Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Kenny Teo (SJI Class of 2003), Head Army Systems, Systems Integration Office, as the Reviewing Officer for this year’s parade. LTC Kenny was an exemplary Josephian and he had previously served as Troop Leader of the St Joseph’s Pelandok Scout Unit during his years in the school.

During the parade, LTC Kenny presented awards to outstanding cadets from the five Uniformed Groups in recognition of their exemplary leadership, service, and dedication. Long Service Awards were also presented to teachers in appreciation of their steadfast commitment and contributions to the development of the UGs.

One of the highlights of the evening was the Change-of-Command Ceremony, officiated by SJI Principal, Mr Justin Arul Pierre. Here, the highest-ranking Year 4 cadet from each UG formally handed over his symbol of office to the appointed Year 3 successor, signifying the transition of leadership responsibilities to the next generation of cadet leaders.

The parade concluded with the retiring Year 4 cadet leaders marching off in slow march to the tune of Auld Lang Syne, providing a poignant and fitting close to their term of service and leadership.
