SJI Celebrates 172nd Founder’s Day

In honour of our founder, St John Baptist de La Salle, SJI commemorated our 172nd Founder’s Day on 30 April to celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of Josephians who have achieved exceptional success in their various academic endeavours and co-curricular pursuits and brought honour and pride to the school in the past year.

We were privileged to have Mr Bernard Tan (SJI Graduating Class of 1982) and Country President Singapore, Sinar Mas as our Guest-of-Honour for the event.

We began the day’s proceedings with the joyous celebration of Mass to thank God for the gift of SJI and for all the blessings bestowed upon our school these past 172 years since our founding in 1852. As part of the Founder’s Day Assembly, we were also treated to performances from the SJI Vocal Ensemble, the melodies of the SJI Symphonic Band and the singing of Elton John’s song entitled “I’m Still Standing” by our very own Aidan Gregory Khoo (LE607).

Principal, Mr Justin Pierre, presented the School Report for the period of May 2023 to April 2024 showcasing and affirming the numerous achievements and contributions of many Josephians that kept the over 2,300 strong audience on the edge of their seats and in awe; the pride and joy on their faces was real.

In his address, Mr Pierre exhorted the entire school community on the occasion of our Founder’s Day to resolve not to just celebrate our rich heritage and traditions, rather to let us together make a fresh commitment to the founding vision and mission of our Founder, St John Baptist De La Salle and to preserve and advance it further. He urged Josephians to continue to be inspired by our Founder’s values and ideals, and to emulate him in the way he embodied the spirit of always putting others first as we answer the call to be servant leaders.

This year, more than 250 students received awards and prizes for their outstanding academic and co-curricular achievements. Tokens of appreciation were also presented to our much-loved Parent Support Group members for their invaluable support, dedication and commitment to the school.
