SJI Beacon Bake Sale 2025

Fifteen teams competed in a blind-judged Bake Off ahead of the Bake Sale, which raised funds for social service agency FaithActs.
Our Beacon Bake Sale 2025 was a vibrant and meaningful event that brought the SJI community together in the spirit of service, creativity and compassion.
In the weeks leading up to the Bake Sale, Beacon also organised the Beacon Bake Off, a friendly competition open to Year 5 Beacon members. This year’s Bake Off had a unique twist inspired by Netflix’s Korean variety show The Culinary Wars: judges were blindfolded and invited to taste-test the teams’ baked goods without knowing who made them. Fifteen baking teams participated, showcasing their creativity, teamwork, and culinary flair. Each team’s baked treats were evaluated by a panel of SJI staff comprising Mr Nicholas Tsao, Dr Andrew Martin and Ms Daisy Chia, based solely on taste.
Held on 14 July 2025, the Bake Sale brought together these finalist groups to prepare a wide array of delicious homemade treats including cookies, brownies, croissants and more. It gave students the opportunity to discover their passion for baking and entrepreneurship through the simple yet meaningful acts of baking, packaging, and selling. At the same time, they raised funds for a worthy cause, FaithActs, a social service agency that supports individuals and families in need. Net proceeds from the event will also fund a collaborative baking activity with beneficiaries from FaithActs, allowing students to extend their service beyond school grounds and into the wider community.
One particularly heartening moment came from a Year 1 student, Shawrya Mangla (LE103) who enthusiastically shared, " I am a Year 1 student who enjoys baking. Is there any way to sign up or participate in the next bake sale?"
Although Beacon CAS is currently open only to Year 5 and 6 students, it is deeply encouraging to see younger Josephians already inspired and eager to contribute. Opportunities like the Bake Sale not only create a platform for service and creativity but also spark a spirit of volunteerism and purpose across all levels of the school.
Through initiatives like these, our students continue to live out the school’s mission and to serve the last, the lost and the least.
