On 31 July 2026, SJI was privileged to welcome Mr Harris Rusdi Chai, Director-General of the Central Transformation & Strategy Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for an engaging dialogue with our Year 5 students. Members of our school leadership team and teaching staff were also present for this meaningful conversation.

Against the backdrop of an increasingly complex global landscape, Mr Harris shared valuable insights into Singapore's foreign policy principles and the strategic considerations that guide our nation's engagement with the world. Through his candid reflections, our students gained a deeper appreciation of the importance of diplomacy, international cooperation, and Singapore’s approach to navigating today's geopolitical challenges.

The dialogue came alive during the question-and-answer segment, where students explored a wide range of issues, from the impact of artificial intelligence on the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Singapore's role as ASEAN Chair in 2027. One of the key messages that emerged from the discussion was Singapore's steadfast commitment to upholding international law and norms, while remaining a trusted and constructive partner to countries around the world.

Beyond the insights into diplomacy and international relations, the session was a powerful reminder of the importance of remaining curious, informed and globally minded. Mr Harris's distinguished public service journey and thoughtful perspectives inspired our students to look beyond our shores, to engage critically with the issues shaping our world, and to recognise that even a small nation can make a meaningful difference on the international stage.
