Record number of recipients at The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition

SJI is proud that the number of our young writers has grown from strength to strength, with the number of winners surging to 193 (3 Gold Finalists, 22 Gold, 59 Silver and 109 Bronze recipients) in 2021, from 43 in 2019 to 81 in 2020!

Among the 26,000 entries from across the Commonwealth, our Josephians from Years 1 and 2 shared their views on the topic of ‘Community in the Commonwealth’, with attention on the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has affected lives of many in the Commonwealth region, and how life will be like 30 years in the future. In times of adversity, our students wrote about how communities came together, drew strength from one another and wrote stories or poems of growth, community and hope.

This achievement is only possible because of the belief of our teachers (Mr Azhar Ghazali, Mrs Janet Kwok, Ms Sangeetha, Mr Krison Tan, Mrs Denise Jeyaseelan, Ms Karen Alexander, Ms Valerie Koh and Ms Darrell Foo) in the students and their commitment to guide them in their writing journey.
