Picnic Under the Stars at SJI

On Friday, 6 March, Picnic Under The Stars (PUTS) 2026 gathered Year 5 and 6 students for a memorable night of laughter, conversation and camaraderie. Organised by SJI Beacon, this annual event offers a meaningful opportunity to forge new friendships and deepen existing bonds through an eventful evening.

Although PUTS is traditionally held at the school field, unexpected bad weather meant that this year’s event took place in the Founder’s Hall instead. The atmosphere remained vibrant and lively, with students still turning up in groups, settling in comfortably, and creating the same sense of togetherness that PUTS is known for. The change in venue did little to dampen spirits, and the hall quickly became a vibrant space buzzing with energy and familiar faces.

Another highlight of the night was the food, made possible through an exclusive collaboration with An Açaí Affair. With açaí bowls included in each bundle sold, students had something refreshing to enjoy as they caught up with friends and settled into the evening. The atmosphere was lifted further by the student band performances, where students enjoyed and sang along to familiar songs, creating a lively environment in the hall.

Beyond an evening of fun and performances, PUTS 2026 was anchored in a larger purpose. This year’s PUTS also marked the first 175th Anniversary fundraising event to be kickstarted via Eventbrite, with all net proceeds from the event contributed towards SJI’s 175th Anniversary campus renewal efforts, supporting projects that will strengthen the school environment for present and future Josephians.

The success of PUTS 2026 was ultimately found in the spirit of community it fostered, proving that even when the stars are out of sight, the Josephian spirit still shines through.
