Our Josephian Annual Tamil Language Camp

On 11 May, the SJI Indian Cultural Society (ICS) organised a Tamil Language Camp for students from Year 1 to 6. Principal, Mr Justin Arul Pierre and Vice Principal, Mr Dominic Ang lit an oil lamp to symbolise the start of the event.

The camp included various activities such as a traditional music workshop, where students learned about the significance of Tamil music and had the chance to play various musical instruments. Another workshop allowed students to showcase their dance talents.

At the camp, alumni Kevin Benedict Assis Franklin (Class of 2023) shared his experiences with the juniors, delivering a short motivational speech about the struggles and challenges he faced as a Josephian and how he overcame them. One of the highlights of the camp, the amazing race, provided a unique opportunity for students to bond with their juniors and seniors, blending fun and knowledge about Tamil culture.

Overall, the camp provided a comprehensive cultural experience, engaging students in the diverse aspects of Tamil heritage.

Sakthi Muralikrishna (FN101) shared, “The Tamil Songwriting Workshop was particularly engaging as it was intriguing to learn about the methods behind the making of the songs from our favourite Tamil Songs. The facilitators taught us how to use synonyms or metaphors to convey a message that rhymes with the other lines of the song. It was a wholesome experience that gave me a greater appreciation for Tamil literature and music!

Achyut Aravindh (FN303) added, “My favourite part of the camp was the Cricket and Kabadi. I am a big fan of sports, so playing these games with my friends was a very enjoyable experience for me.”
