Josephians Win Awards in Essay and Poetry Competitions

Three Josephians won prizes for essays and poetry on organ donation and kampong life.
Jack Li Murray Wigmore (FN203) on winning one of the awards at the Live On Festival, an initiative by the National Organ Transplant Unit, Ministry of Health! Launched in 2018 as the Live On Design Competition (LODC), the competition is renamed as Live On Festival (LOF) following an expansion to include writing in 2021. LOF celebrates having participants express their thoughts on organ donation and transplantation through art and creative essay writing. LOF serves as a platform for exploring values of responsibility, compassion, empathy and altruism through the delicate and emotive nature of the topic of organ donation and transplantation. Jack's essay ‘The Angel of Sight’ drew on the metaphor of light and the renewed gift of sight, an apt choice for this competition that seeks to educate the public on organ donation.
Rohanveer Singh Sidhu (ML101) is one of the winners at the National Poetry Competition 2021! His poem ‘The Community of Bukit Ho Swee’ about the loss of kampong spirit for the people of Bukit Ho Swee who had resettled into their new dwellings won the hearts of the judges for its sincere and nostalgic tone. Rohanveer also received a Merit award in the Super Junior Category (10 – 14 years old).
Sarah Zafirah Bte Noor Ashikin (LE609) was shortlisted as one of the finalists in Poetry Festival SG: Catharsis Open Call. She is a gifted and prolific writer, having already won the Rice x Dialogic Op-Ed Competition and 24-Hour Playwriting Competition (Youth Category) in July 2020. Congratulations!
