Josephians Shine in The Straits Times' "What’s The News?" Quiz Competition 2025

Demonstrating wit, keen awareness of current affairs and outstanding teamwork, six of our students flew the SJI flag high in The Straits Times' highly competitive "What’s The News?" Quiz 2025.

The team comprised Stanley Pang Wei Jun, Krishay Gautam Patel, and Ethan Chong from LE403; Wang Xuanwen from ML402; Marcus Witarsa Ng from MN401; and Nathan Henry Asikin from FN402. Together, they embarked on a month-long journey that tested their knowledge of local and international news, as well as their ability to stay abreast of developments across diverse fields such as politics, science, culture, and sports.

The competition, which began with a rigorous qualifying round involving some 6,000 student participants from across Singapore, quickly proved to be a demanding test of both breadth and depth of knowledge. Our SJI team not only secured a place among the top 16 teams in the semi-finals but also demonstrated poise under pressure to advance into the grand finals alongside only three other schools.

In the grand finals, held in front of a live audience and featuring rapid-fire rounds and buzzer battles, our students performed with remarkable composure and confidence. Their impressive performance earned them a highly commendable 2nd Place overall; a testament to their diligence, quick thinking and excellent collaboration.

Beyond the podium finish, the experience has enriched the team’s appreciation for global events and honed their analytical skills. The school community celebrates their achievements and looks forward to seeing these young men continue to embody SJI’s spirit of curiosity, excellence, and intellectual rigor.
