Josephians Excel in Offshore and Sustainable Engineering Challenge

Thirteen Josephians built sustainable watercraft models for Ngee Ann Polytechnic's OSEC challenge, winning a Merit Award and a Design Marvel Award.
13 Josephians participated in this year’s Offshore and Sustainable Engineering Challenge (OSEC), organised by Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Engineering.
The challenge was to design and build a high-performance watercraft model with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. Our Josephians had to integrate sustainable materials into their designs, emphasising environmentally friendly practices and resource conservation, while ensuring that the watercraft could carry a minimum payload of 400g.
Each team dedicated over three months to meticulously craft their boats, and their hard work paid off with many of our Josephians doing exceedingly well in this competition with them clinching both the Merit and Design Marvel Awards.
One SJI team designed and constructed a speed boat, taking inspiration from sharks, sailfishes and planes. This team comprising Atticus Choy (LE303), William Choo (MN302), Chen Hong Peng (LE301) and Garren Tang (MN302), won the Merit Award. The second SJI team comprising Ryan Goh (FN403), Shawn Lee (FN403), Koh Wen Kai (FN403) and Tang Zhao Jie (ML401) clinched the Design Marvel Award for their propulsion system’s unconventional and innovative design.
