Josephians at the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair 2026

Four SJI teams of 11 students presented research projects, including a low-cost pupillometer and MRT track crack detection.
Our Josephians participated in the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) 2026, with a total of four teams comprising 11 Josephians representing the school. The fair provided an excellent platform for our students to present their research, exchange ideas, and engage with fellow young scientists from across Singapore.
Team BE026: Huynh Anh Tuan (MN402), Patrick Justilien (LE401), Pham Hong Anh (FN402) worked on the Development of PIEPR: A Low-cost, Raspberry Pi-based Pupillometer to capture the Chromatic Pupil Light Reflex. The project was conducted in SJI.
Team ET020: John Gabriel Lim (FN403), Alexander Tan (MN402), Zachariah Goh (LE403) with project: Investigating The Effects of Surface Hydrophilicity Vs. Hydrophobicity on Water Evaporation Rates. The project was conducted in SJI under School-Based Science Mentorship Programme (SB-SMM).
Team MS062: Nithush Saththikumar (LE609), Sachin Palaniappan (ML611), and Moyukh Sendas (from RI) with project: Working with the Thinnest of all Materials: Atomic Monolayers. This project was conducted in NUS, College of Design and Engineering (CDE), Department of Materials Science and Engineering under MOE Science Research Programme (SRP).
Team SS013: Rakesh Jatin (MN517), Aguilar Adrien Lim (MN516), Raphael Yang (LE506) with the project: Surface Crack Defect Detection on Singapore MRT Tracks A Low-Cost Approach Using TommyBot. This was a home-based research project.
SJI’s participation this year was particularly noteworthy for several reasons. Three out of the four projects were developed internally, reflecting the growing research culture within the school. In addition, one home-based project with no formal mentor was shortlisted for the Final Judging, highlighting the initiative and independence demonstrated by our students.
What matters most is the learning journey. The courage to share their ideas, the resilience to persevere through challenges, and the humility to learn from others and from their own experiences are what truly count. These qualities nurture a spirit of inquiry and discovery, and we are proud of our Josephians for embracing this journey.
