Josephians at the NUS Science Research Programme 2026

In April 2025, seven Year 5 SJI students started their long 13-months journey in the NUS Science Research Programme. 

The NUS Science Research Programme (SRP) is a premier research attachment programme established in 1988 by NUS Faculty of Science in collaboration with the Gifted Education Branch of MOE. The main objective of this Programme is to give selected JC1 students who have demonstrated interest and aptitude for scientific research, the opportunity to be in a Science mentorship and to undertake research projects in a scientific and technological community.

We are happy to share that all of them have successfully completed the requirements of the SRP and are receiving Certificates of Participation:

Two students,  Chia Kheng Hean Vaughn (MN619, Team Leader) and Ethan Tan Jun Tong (MN617), worked in the NUS Department of Biological Studies where they tried to characterise the apoptotic, or programmed cell death, potential of a recombinant human protein called Isthmin-1 on macrophages.

Nithush Saththikumar (LE609, Team Leader) and Sachin Palaniappan (ML611) completed a joint project together with a student from Raffles Institution titled “Working With The Thinnest Of All Materials: Atomic Monolayers” at the NUS Department of Materials Science & Engineering.

A team of 3 Josephians, Werner Lee Hong Yick (LE607, Team Leader), Vishesh Jain (MN620) and Zachary Yan Tjun (ML615), completed their research project in the NUS Cell Signaling and Developmental Biology Laboratory where they studied the influence of Extracellular Matrix composition on macrophage phenotypic plasticity.
