Josephian Wins Articulation Prize at National Gallery Singapore

Rickey Khine won first place with an art criticism speech on San Minn's 1979 painting Age of Full Bloom, linked to Myanmar's political history.
SJI is proud to share that Rickey Khine (LE402) has been awarded First Place at the Articulation Prize Singapore 2026, held on 6 March and organised by National Gallery Singapore.
After advancing through three demanding stages, Rickey delivered a compelling art criticism speech on Age of Full Bloom (1979) by San Minn, a powerful surrealist work painted in the aftermath of the artist’s political imprisonment in Myanmar.
What made Rickey’s presentation especially moving was the deeply personal perspective of his interpretation. Drawing from his childhood experiences, he thoughtfully intertwined art history with lived reality. He reflected on the significance of San Minn’s once-censored masterpiece, considering what it may mean for a generation of children growing up amid the uncertainties that have shaped Myanmar since 2021.
Among many outstanding young voices, Rickey distinguished himself not only through sharp critical insight, but also through authenticity of his voice. This is the power of engaging with art; to feel and to connect, and to speak with conviction. Shine on, Rickey!
