Josephian Duo Present Research Paper to International Audience

Kum Trakal and Ethan Koay presented a paper on portfolio rebalancing using deep reinforcement learning at a conference in Kyoto.

Josephians Kum Trakal (MN616) and Ethan Koay (LE610) made significant contributions to the 11th International Conference on Computing and Artificial Intelligence, which took place at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan, from March 27 to March 31, 2025. Both students participated in this conference as part of the Josephian Research Programme, with additional guidance from Teacher-in-charge Mr Low Kay Siang.
Their research paper, titled "Portfolio Rebalancing using Deep Reinforcement Learning", was accepted for presentation by the organisers of the conference, highlighting their innovative work in applying advanced artificial intelligence techniques to the field of finance.
Under the mentorship of Prof Quek Hiok Chai from the NTU School of Computing, Trakal and Ethan explored the potential of deep reinforcement learning algorithms to solve the complex problem of portfolio rebalancing. Their research focused on improving decision-making in financial markets, providing valuable insights into how AI can be leveraged to optimize investment strategies.
They gave a strong poster presentation at the conference, clearly explaining their complex findings and methods to an international crowd of experts, researchers and industry professionals. They spoke with confidence and clarity, sparking some great conversations about the real-world impact of their work.
