Empowering Educators Through AI, Coding, and Maker Learning

On 29 April 2026, SJI hosted a dynamic professional sharing session on “Coding with AI,” bringing together 23 teachers from schools across Singapore. The session, led by Mr Poh, focused on equipping educators with practical insights and tools to integrate artificial intelligence into coding instruction, with an emphasis on accessibility, creativity, and classroom relevance.

Participants were introduced to emerging AI-assisted development platforms and explored how these tools can support both teachers and students in streamlining workflows, enhancing problem-solving, and lowering barriers to entry in programming. The session also included demonstrations and examples tailored to the local educational context, sparking rich discussions on implementation strategies and pedagogical considerations.

Following the sharing, participants were given a guided tour of SJI’s Makerspace by Mrs Pennie Ong, Mr Ferry and Ms Lim. The tour showcased a range of student projects and facilities, highlighting how design thinking and hands-on learning are embedded within the school’s culture. Teachers had the opportunity to observe how space, tools, and instructional approaches come together to foster innovation and experimentation.

The programme concluded with a hands-on making session conducted by Mr Chester from the Science Centre Singapore. Centered on the theme “Making with Constraints,” the workshop challenged participants to design and create within defined limitations—an approach that underscored the importance of creativity, resourcefulness, and iterative thinking in both teaching and learning.

Overall, the session provided a meaningful platform for professional exchange, inspiring educators to reimagine how coding, AI, and maker education can be thoughtfully integrated into their own school contexts.
