Celebrating Josephian Talent in Xinyao Singing and Songwriting

Josephians Wong Rong Zheng (ML101) and Chen Zekai (ML101) were awarded the Merit Award for Creative Songwriting at the Grand Finals of the Xin Kong Xia (新空下) Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition 2025.

Now in its 11th year, the annual competition, jointly organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), Lianhe Zaobao, TCR Music Station and Jurong Pioneer Junior College, continues to promote students’ appreciation for Chinese language and culture through Xinyao, Singapore’s own genre of Mandarin music.

This year, 42 students were recognised for their vocal and composition talents, with a record number of close to 100 students from 23 schools participating in the Group Singing category.
