Celebrating Inclusion, Building Community!

On Saturday, 22 August, SJI collaborated with community partners SG Cares, Special Olympics and Brighton Connection to host “Our Family Big Playout – The Joy of Us!”, an inclusive family day that brought families, Josephians and members of the wider community together in a joyful celebration of inclusion, friendship and togetherness.

More than 120 Josephians from CCAs including Canoeing, Track & Field, Guitar Ensemble, St John Brigade and the Design & Innovation Club stepped forward to serve as game masters, performers and activity facilitators. From inclusive sports and games for persons with disabilities to lively guitar performances and engaging First Aid activities, our Josephians helped create a welcoming afternoon where everyone could participate, connect and have fun together.

We were also delighted to welcome Mayor of Central Singapore District, Ms Denise Phua, whose presence added to the significance of this special occasion.

Beyond the activities, the day offered our Josephians a meaningful opportunity to learn through service and encounter. Through their interactions with participants and families, they gained a deeper appreciation of diverse needs and experiences, and of the importance of empathy, respect and dignity in building a truly inclusive community.

Service lies at the heart of an SJI education. Through our Values-in-Action programme, VIA Scubilion, we seek to form Josephians with a heart for others and a zeal to contribute meaningfully to society. Experiences such as this remind us that building an inclusive community begins with being present to one another, recognising the dignity of every person and creating spaces where everyone belongs.
