Buddy Up Reading Programme (BURP)

Buddy Up Reading Programme (BURP) returned this year, bringing together Josephians from ML103 and FN102 with students from Bendemeer Primary School. The event began with a school tour and a Readathon, where students from both schools took to the stage to share excerpts from their favourite books. Everyone kept the atmosphere lively and participants were engaged in Reading Circles, discussing Attack of the Swordfish through different perspectives, even reimagining the story from the eyes of the swordfish!

Reflecting on the experience, Nathanael Chia Yee Bin from ML103 shared that "It was nerve-wracking at first as we did not know what it is like to facilitate but it ended off as a rewarding experience seeing the creative and talented younger students share their insights about the story.”

Mitchell Kody Chan from FN102 said he enjoyed the experience of guiding the discussions of the BPS students. Many felt the programme was beneficial for both sides, giving the primary students exposure to diverse insights while allowing our Josephians to exercise leadership and communication skills in an authentic environment.

BURP continues to ignite imagination and foster the joy of reading across schools and we hope to be reading buddies to others.
