Broadening Perspectives on Nuclear Energy

25 IB Physics students visited the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative at NUS on 30 September for hands-on reactor simulations and a keynote talk.
25 Josephians who are offering IB Physics participated in a meaningful Learning Journey to the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative (SNRSI) at NUS on 30 Sep 2025, where they explored the role of nuclear energy in Singapore’s future.
The programme featured hands-on activities, including a simulation on nuclear reactor operations and the construction of a cloud chamber to observe background radiation, allowing students to connect theory with practical applications. They also gained deeper insights into nuclear science and energy issues from the keynote address by Associate Professor Chung Keng Yeow who is also the Director of the Institute.
This experience not only broadened the students' scientific perspectives on nuclear power as a viable energy source for Singapore but also inspired them to apply physics knowledge to real-world challenges.
