12th Singapore Astronomy Olympiad

Eleven Year 6 students competed, with six winning medals overall (1 Gold, 3 Silver, 2 Bronze) across theoretical, data analysis and observation rounds.
Eleven Year 6 students from SJI took part in the 12th Singapore Astronomy Olympiad (SAO), a national competition in Astronomy and Astrophysics that serves to identify potential representatives for Singapore at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) to be held in Mumbai, India, later this year.
At this year’s Singapore Astronomy Olympiad, six of our students earned medals, with SJI proudly achieving 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze Awards.
Our Josephian medal winners are:
Gold: Joshi Arnav (ML615)
Silver: Shravy Jindal (LE403), Darius Shi (ML615) and Gong Xin Huan (LE610)
Bronze: Sundarrajan Dhirein (ML614) and Jayden Ng (LE608)

The SAO consists of three sections: Theoretical, Data Analysis, and Observation. The Theoretical Round featured multiple-choice, short-response, and long-response questions, with a strong focus on computational astronomy and astrophysics. The Data Analysis Round tested skills in interpreting astronomical research data, including graph plotting and basic statistics. The Observation Round comprised two parts: knowledge of telescope components and identification of celestial objects and constellations in the night sky.
