Direct School Admission (DSA) To SJI Year 5 In 2020

1. SJI welcomes current Secondary 4 students, both boys and girls, to apply for DSA to Year 5 in 2020 (IBDP). The SJI JC education leads to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

3. The school is located at 38, Malcolm Road, Singapore 308274.

4. Students admitted through DSA must commit to their chosen school for the duration of the programme. Please refer to the DSA-JC Exercise FAQs at https://www.moe.gov.sg/admissions/direct-admissions/dsa-jc/

a) Successful DSA-JC students are not allowed to participate in the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) as places have already been reserved for them in the DSA-JC schools; and
b) Successful DSA-JC students are not allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the GCE ‘O’ Level examination results as they are expected to honour their commitment to their posted DSA-JC schools.

5. The SJI DSA-JC exercise invites interested applications in ONE of the following domains:

a) Language and Humanities
b) Leadership and Uniformed Groups
c) Performing Arts
d) Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
e) Sports and Games

Selection Criteria

6. The criteria for selection are based on the following:

a) Evidence on engagement and achievements in the domain applied for;
b) Quality of mind
c) Personal and relational characteristics
d) Academic performance in Secondary 3 (mid-year and end-of-year) and Secondary 4 (mid-year) School Examination with the L1R5 Aggregate Score based on the following subject groups:

e) Results from the two written tests – English and Math conducted by SJI.
f) Results from the interview.

7. Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to sit for two written tests on English and Maths (in separate sittings) and attend an interview.

8. In the SJI IBDP, students are expected to participate in a range of Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) activities over two years. This is unlike Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) in a JC where students participate in one CCA over two years.

Application Process

9. The SJI DSA-JC application will be open from 13 May to 10 June 2019, 3pm. Please note that incomplete and late applications will not be processed.

10. Applications for the SJI DSA-JC are to be made online at http://app.sji.edu.sg/dsa_ib.

a) Upon completion of the online application form, click ‘Submit’
b) Print a hardcopy of the completed form and sign.

11. The SJI online application portal will be locked on 10 June 2019 at 3.00pm. Submission of the hardcopy is to be made by 5.00pm on 10 June 2019.

Hardcopy Submission

12. The hardcopy submission must include the following:

a) A print-out of the completed application form duly signed.
b) A copy of Secondary 3 (mid-year and end-of-year results) and Secondary 4 (Mid-year results). Students whose Secondary 4 mid-year results are not ready at the point of submission, please submit your CA1 results. You may submit your mid-year results by 2 July 2019.
c) A copy of CCA records
d) Supporting documents for the domain applied for.

13. Hardcopy submission can be made either by hand to:

14. Please be advised that your application is only considered complete when all the following are fulfilled:

a) The online application has been made and an application number has been issued by the system;
b) A hardcopy of the completed application form with the documents have been submitted to SJI by hand.

Payment

15. An administrative fee of $30 is payable, if shortlisted.

16. This fee is non-refundable regardless whether the applicant turns up for the tests / interview. Payment can be made via PayNow or Bank Transfer before sitting for the Math test. Applicants who are recipients of the MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) will have their fees waived upon producing the necessary documentation.

Written Tests and Interview

17. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to sit for two written tests and attend an interview. The tentative dates are as follows:

4 July 2019 Math Test
11 or 12 July 2019 English Test followed by an interview

More information will be provided to shortlisted applicants when the invitation is made via email.

Fees paid and documents submitted in connection with the application are non-returnable regardless of whether the applicant is shortlisted.
