Programme Overview

The SJI Integrated Programme (IP) leading to the IB Diploma aims to empower young people to deal with the complexity, diversity and rapid changes living in today’s globalized world.

This is achieved through an inter-disciplinary approach that integrates cutting-edge studies in the Arts & Design, Science & Technology, and Business & Enterprise (the Integrative Core) with broad-based foundational academic studies, provide opportunities for in-depth study in an area of talent and discovery of new areas of interest.

The SJI IP will also emphasise developments in the cognitive and affective domains, focusing particularly on thinking and communication, as well as character and leadership development.

Key Programme Highlights:

Leads to the IB Diploma Programme, which provides excellent preparation for the 21st Century globalized world with a broad-based, holistic, and internationally-minded education that is well-regarded by universities and employers for nurturing self-directed students who are good thinkers, learners and communicators.

Integrative Core: comprising the unique innovation and thinking programmes of ArtScience (in collaboration with the Idea Translation Lab @ Harvard University) that integrates the thinking modes and methodologies of the Arts and the Sciences; Business Design Thinking (in collaboration with the Rotman School of Management and Singapore DesignWorks), and the World & Me course that promotes critical thinking and reasoning in the context of global issues organized around four broad themes: Science & Technology, Economics & Business, Society & Government, and Philosophy.

A unique 3-tier Levels of Learning Curriculum Structure: enables a balance between laying a strong academic foundation that is broad-based (at Level 1), and catering to extended learning and student interest and talent (at Levels 2 and 3).  This approach recognizes that while in the IP, curriculum is freed up for educational experiences beyond exam-preparation, there is a need to maintain academic rigour (at Level 1) and also avoid overloading of students in the IP (with optional level 2 and 3 modules).

The Overseas Residential Programme (ORP) is a capstone programme that integrates the learning of the boys in the various strands, in which every IP boy will spend up 8 weeks living with, learning in and serving the communities of countries across Asia, as well as a stint in an advanced industrialized nation such as the US, Canada, France, UK and Japan.

Character: the SJI difference. Building on the strong reputation of SJI in character development, ethics, values and character development will run through all the programmes. The IP boys will have a curriculum that provides more time and space for learning to be ‘men of integrity’ and ‘men for others’, through outdoors and leadership education, and the unique SJI Religious, Moral, & Social Education (RMSE) programme.

Desired Student Outcomes

The SJI IP aims to nurture students to become persons who lead holistic, principled and meaningful lives that make a positive difference to the lives of others, through helping each student to discover and develop their unique vocation and talents. More specifically, the SJI IP will nurture future leaders for Singapore who will be ‘Persons of Integrity’ and ‘Persons for Others’, with a global outlook but strongly rooted in the Singapore culture and community.

The SJI IP students will exhibit:

  • Purpose-driven living. Passionate individuals driven by an internal moral compass and constantly strive for meaning in all they do

  • Principled community leadership. Caring and people-oriented leaders who will focus on community building

  • Strong inter-disciplinary foundation. Innovative thinkers and effective communicators grounded in a strong inter-disciplinary learning that synergizes arts & design, science & technology, and business

  • Life-long learning dispositions. Reflective and self-directed life-long learners with strong habits of mind and a responsive attitude towards future challenges
