160th Year Celebrations

Josephians, salute your alma mater,
She reigns majestically fair,
A landmark in our Lion City,
A symbol of the brave and true …

Calling all Old Boys:

Have you, in recent years, been experiencing a growing gnawing in your heart, acquired a habit of frequently harking back and reliving the memories of those school days at Bras Basah or Malcolm Road; and feeling a deepening desire to salute your alma mater by giving something back to SJI?

And have you then found yourselves asking, wondering: How can I give back to SJI?

Well, if so, here’s one way for you to take that first small step forward.

Come and be a part of a Grand Dinner that will be held next year to mark the 160th Anniversary of SJI’s founding in 1852.

The Dinner – which will be held on 12 May 2012 – is being organised as part of SJI’s 160th Anniversary celebrations to commemorate the feast day of our founder, St John Baptist de la Salle, on May 15. It will be held at the school field of the SJI Malcolm Road campus.

More importantly, the Dinner is the pinnacle of all the commemorative events that the SJIOBA Ex-Co has been organising these past two years as part of its Reconnecting with Alma Mater programme to build a vibrant and thriving SJI community

More than 20,000 men have passed through SJI’s hallowed corridors since her founding in 1852 as the first of many Lasallian schools through South-East Asia.

On 12 May 2012, we are expecting more than 2,500 Old Boys to return to SJI to be a part of our Dinner celebrations.

Will you be one of them? We would absolutely love to have you.

Apart from a sumptuous eight-course Chinese dinner and a wonderful night of first-class entertainment, the dinner will also be a perfect opportunity for you to catch up and reconnect with your old school mates and beloved teachers.

During the night, we will also be paying a heartfelt tribute to all the teachers who have played a significant part in molding our lives, characters and values. You will also be doing your part to maintain the Josephian way of education for our current and future students.

This is because the surpluses collected from the Dinner will be donated to a newly-created Teachers’ Welfare Fund. This fund has two aims: Firstly, to help defray the medical expenses of retired SJI teachers and provide financial assistance to those among them who may be in need of some help. Secondly, it will be used to help in the professional development of our current teachers so that they can continue to do their part to provide a La Sallian education for our current and future Josephians.

If you are interested in being a part of this Dinner, and if you are keen to round up your old schoolmates to form a table or two (or three), please email us. We can also help you to reconnect with your mates from your cohort if you have lost touch with them.

Also, you can do your part by alerting former Josephians who are now based overseas to the event so that they can choose to return to be a part of the festivities. We look forward to seeing you on the night. Join us in saluting our beloved Alma Mater.
