Academic Curriculum

We believe that it is very important for our boys to learn how to learn. While the boys are prepared well for the national examinations, we also help our boys to build a strong capacity for inquiry and thinking so that they can continue to learn even after leaving school.

We provide a 4-year broad-based academic curriculum that prepares the boys for the GCE 'O' level examinations. In the upper secondary level, we give our boys one of the most broad-based subject options among secondary schools in Singapore. Boys take between 7 and 10 subjects for the GCE 'O' level examinations. Most boys offer at least 2 Sciences, 2 Mathematics, 2 Humanities and 2 Languages. More than half of our boys offer triple Sciences i.e. Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Literature is compulsory for all boys taking 2 Humanities subjects. Literature is taken either an option in Combined Humanities or a full Humanities subject. We believe that the study of Literature can enhance the sensitivity of our boys to language and to human emotions and character.

We strongly believe in this broad-based academic curriculum as it provides our boys with the strong foundation to pursue any course of study or discipline in the future. Also, a more broad-based education is necessary for today's innovation driven economy as the latter calls for the ability to understand and draw from different disciplines and to address problems and opportunities from a wide range of perspectives.
